My passion for art began in my senior year of high school. To graduate early I needed a fill in class. Alice Doud at San Luis Obispo High School was my art teacher and from her guidance I realized my love of art. After retiring, I began my journey of studying art through local teachers, workshops, videos, and resource books.
Beginning in plein aire, I started to really see nature and all the beautiful and varied colors. My goal is to depict a mood or story in a simple and colorful expression of how I see the subject. I chose oil as my medium because of the texture and feel and ease to move freely over my canvas.
The intrigue for me is a constant challenge of learning that will never be exhausted. To keep me on tract, I enter juried shows as a way of validating what I have learned. At present, my favorite subject matter is animals or figurative or a combination. Often realism interspersed with expressionism and maybe a little whimsy seems to capture how the subject speaks to me and what it might convey to the viewer.
